Product Review: TJ's Beer Bread Mix

by Heather on March 22, 2010

Since I just got back from another trip (this time to Burbank with my mom and sis), I thought I would show something super easy that can literally be thrown together in 5 minutes max. Trader Joe’s sells this bread mix for $1.99 and it is quite the versatile mix. We didn’t have any beer on hand, as usual, but the box says you can also use seltzer water, hard cider, soda or any carbonated beverage. We happened to have cans of club soda in the fridge (which is odd since it was the only time we’d ever even bought club soda) so I thought it would work.

AND, it sure did work! Alex said this was the best bread that I’ve made! I was quite surprised it would get that much praise, but it was delicious. The melted butter on top makes the crust extra crispy and full of rich flavor. Also, the golden color couldn’t be any more perfect. The box also lists directions to make the mix into muffins or biscuits. I’m curious as to how the bread would taste with a flavored soda and maybe with the beer (although my friend said she tried it with beer and was not impressed). SO, the only ingredients you add to the mix are a 12 oz. can of whatever beverage and 1/4 cup melted butter. Seriously, try it!!
